WHAT IS AN ADOS-2

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of communication, social interaction, play/imaginative use of materials, and restricted and repetitive behaviors for individuals who have been referred  because of possible autism spectrum disorders (ASD).  This assessment is considered the "gold standard" for diagnosing ASD (Kanne, Randolph, & Farmer, 2008; Ozonoff, Goodlin-Jones, & Solomon, 2005)

There are 5 assessment modules.  Each module offers standard activities designed to elicit behaviors that are directly relevant to the diagnosis of ASD at various developmental levels and chronological ages.

The ADOS-2 is one piece of the comprehensive diagnostic evaluation required by Medicaid and private insurance companies prior to authorization for ABA services.

(The person conducting this assessment should have the required training by an experienced ADOS-2 Certified Trainer and have prior knowledge of autism and be experienced in administering and scoring assessments)
